The Buckley Foundation

Origins: The Mary Buckley Foundation (2005)

Mary Buckley, a loving mother of four boys, was a strong, spiritual person.  She was a social worker who worked with disabled infants and toddlers. Mary was always laughing and smiling and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

On April 21, 2004, Mary a Virginia Beach resident, was admitted to the hospital for "routine" foot surgery. Due to complications she suffered a global anoxic brain injury. She remained in a persistent vegetative state until she died in October 2006. Her husband, Matt Buckley, determined to have some good come from this tragedy, started the Mary Buckley Foundation(MBF) in 2005 in honor of Mary.

Over the past years, the MBF helped numerous families and survivors of brain injuries in Hampton Roads. Sadly, Matt Buckley also passed away in August 2012. He was a devoted husband, father, coach, friend and advocate for brain injury services in Virginia.

The Buckley Foundation (2013)

To honor both Mary and Matt, the Buckley brothers, Teddy, Tommy, Matthew, and William, together with the Board of Directors, officially changed the name of the foundation to The Buckley Foundation.
